Canvas Stretching & Float Framing

Large woven textile artwork stretched and mounted in a custom oak floater frame, professionally framed by Andrew Legere. Ideal example of Canvas Stretching & Float Framing.

Canvas stretching and float framing are often the final steps that determine how a painting sits in a space and how it will hold up over time. Every stretcher bar we use is custom built to the exact size of the canvas so the fit is precise and properly supported. Anything larger than 30 inches is braced for stability to help prevent long term movement or warping. Each piece is stretched by hand, squared carefully, and stapled with consistent tension so the surface remains even and secure.

We select stretcher bar depths based on the individual work, taking into account the scale, weight, and how it will be displayed. Some paintings benefit from a deeper profile while others are better suited to a more minimal build. We also stretch a range of other fabrics when appropriate, which is determined once we see the material and understand how it will be presented.

We frequently re stretch and correct canvases that have relaxed, shifted, or been mounted improperly over time. This may involve rebuilding the stretcher, adjusting tension, or preparing the work for framing, storage, or transport.

Float framing allows the artwork to sit slightly away from the frame with careful attention to spacing, depth, and proportion so the overall presentation feels considered and balanced. We offer a range of float frame profiles and finishes and work through the details of reveal and depth to suit the piece and the space it will live in.
