From Street to Print
A Guided Photowalk & Print Reveal
Most photowalks end with the photograph. This experience continues beyond that point, focusing on the transition from image to print, and the role of archival materials in creating work that is meant to last.
From Street to Print is a guided street photography experience through Vancouver. We spend the time making photographs, but with a deeper attention to what we are creating. The focus is not on keeping everything, but on returning to the work and selecting one image from the day to carry forward as a finished archival print. Not a collection, but a decision. Something that exists physically, with presence.
Its May, and the days are getting long! The sunset is at 8:41pm and the weather looks perfect! 18° with some clouds. This means that perfect glow, that soft warm evening light will start painting the sidewalks and store fronts down Denman Street around 6:45pm.
Beginning at A-maze-ing Laughter (Morton Park, 1800 Morton Ave, Vancouver) and ending at Sunset Beach, with curated stops along the way (approximately 3 km of walking).
We will begin along Denman Street, taking advantage of what is only available in the early evening. That shift in light as the sun lowers in the western sky, shadows lengthen, and everything takes on a warmer glow. We will move through Denman, observing shop fronts, busy sidewalks, and restaurants at their peak. From there, we will spend time around English Bay Beach and the Bathhouse, watching the light continue to change. As the sun drops lower, we will follow the Seawall, working with that final stretch of evening light. The walk will conclude at Sunset Beach, where we will watch the sun fall below the horizon.
This is where we pay attention to our surroundings, available light, and how people move through and interact with the environment.
This is a small group experience, designed for attention and conversation.
Each participant will receive one museum quality, fully archival fine art print of their photograph.
This experience concludes with a print reveal and group discussion, where the work is seen, held, and understood in a different way.
