An in person seminar introducing the photography and philosophy of Edward Weston. Together we will explore how light, form, texture, and careful observation transformed ordinary subjects into some of the most celebrated photographs of the twentieth century. Through live demonstrations using continuous light and long exposure, we will experiment with simple still life subjects and techniques that can easily be recreated at home. The evening concludes with an introduction to the assignment.Friday, July 17

During the week you will create your own series of still life photographs inspired by Edward Weston's philosophy of form. Together we will review each participant's work through a collaborative critique, discussing light, composition, and visual design before selecting one photograph for the final proofing, printing, mounting, matting, and framing process.Monday, July 27
5:00pmPrint Reveal
Our workshop concludes with the unveiling of each participant's finished photograph. Professionally printed, archival mounted, custom matted, and framed, each image reflects a week spent exploring Edward Weston's philosophy of form and discovering how light can transform the simplest of subjects into a finished work of art.
